Ooni Thermometer

So you have an Ooni pizza oven and are ready to start baking delicious pizza, but you are having trouble figuring out just when to put your pizza in the oven.

You know the temperature needs to be high, but how do you know when it is high enough? It is unlike a standard oven that beeps when it reaches the right temperature.

That is where the Ooni infrared thermometer comes in.

No longer will you have to wonder if your oven is hot enough to bake your pizza quickly and deliciously.

Just point and know for sure.

Let’s check it out!

What Is An Ooni Infrared Thermometer?

An Ooni infrared thermometer is a tool that you can use to gauge the temperature of your pizza oven. It uses a laser to take the temperature of the pizza stone without actually having to touch it.

This Ooni temperature gun is easy to hold and use and can read temperatures up to 1112 degrees Fahrenheit or 600 degrees Celcius.

It is made of black and yellow plastic with a backlight screen that is super easy to read. This tool will help you use your Ooni pizza oven to its fullest extent.

Why Use An Ooni Infrared Thermometer?

Temperature is super important when trying to cook a delicious pizza.

Still, without the Ooni Infrared thermometer, it is kind of a guessing game whether not your pizza oven, and more specifically the pizza stone, is hot enough.

If you put your pizza in too soon, the top of your pizza will likely burn before the bottom even has a chance to cook. This does not lead to very yummy pizza.

Using the infrared thermometer will help prevent this from happening because it allows you to check the stone is hot enough before you slide in the pizza.

How To Use An Ooni Infrared Thermometer?

One of the nice things about the Ooni infrared thermometer compared to other infrared thermometers is that it is super simple to use.

The first step is turning your pizza over and waiting a little bit for it to get hot. When you think the oven may be hot enough, use the center button to turn the laser to the on the setting.

You can use the buttons to the left and right of the on/off button to switch the unit of measurement between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

When you are ready to measure the temperature, keep in mind that the closer you can be to the surface, the more accurate the measurement will be, so get as closer as you can to the center of the stone while remaining a safe enough distance.

Point the laser and hold the trigger down. When you release the trigger, the temperature will remain on the screen for fifteen seconds or until you push down the trigger again.

How Do You Check The Temperature of A Pizza Oven?

When you check the temperature of a pizza oven, you do not want to scan the temperature of the open space in the pizza oven or the flame.

You want to check the temperature of the stone inside the pizza oven. While you want the whole oven to be hot, the stone is an essential part.

The stone is responsible for cooking the pizza from the bottom up so that you do not end up with a half-burnt, half-undercooked pizza.

When you check the temperature of a pizza oven, you want to measure the center of your stone. If the center of the stone is hot enough, you can go ahead and slide in the pizza.

After much experimenting, we found the temperature you are looking for is 800 degrees Fahrenheit or about 426 degrees Celsius at the center of the stone.

Just remember that you also have to rotate the pizza every 15 to 20 seconds.

But we’ve found that this is the best setting to perfectly cook any pizza without being burnt.

Benefits Of Using An Ooni Infrared Thermometer With Your Ooni?

Perfectly Cooked Pizza

The most important thing when cooking pizza at home is the temperature. If the temperature is off, you could end up with soggy pizza, undercooked pizza, burnt pizza, or a combination of them.

When you can ensure that your oven is hot enough, you will get pizza cooked perfectly in just sixty seconds. It will help you on your way to becoming a professional pizza chef!

Multiple Uses

Do you like to cook things other than pizza? If so, that is one of the great things about the infrared thermometer. You can use it to test the temperature of different foods.

Trying to see if your hamburgers are done cooking on the grill?

You can use this thermometer.

Do you want to see if your casserole is cooked to the center?

You can use the Ooni infrared thermometer. It can help you with all sorts of cooking and baking.

No More Wasted Money Or Time

The most unfortunate thing about putting a pizza in at the wrong temperature is that you have to throw it out and start over when it cooks wrong.

It is not just slightly overdone or underdone, which is usually fixable or at least edible, but it is half undercooked and half burnt, a concoction no one wants to eat.

With the thermometer, you won’t have to lose money on wasted ingredients and time on wasted pizzas.

Here’s a video brought to you by Ooni on how to use the Ooni thermometer and why the temperature of the pizza stone is so important.

Ooni Thermometer Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Measure The Temperature Of My Ooni Pizza Oven?

To measure the temperature of your Ooni pizza oven, you will want to start by turning on your infrared thermometer and setting it to the correct unit of measurement for you.

Next, you want to point it at the center of the pizza stone, getting as close as possible for a more accurate reading.

Hold down the trigger, and when you release the temperature will pop up on the screen. You can use other infrared thermometers, but they will all come with their directions, and many are more complicated and harder to use.

What Kind of Batteries Does The Ooni Infrared Thermometer Use?

The Ooni infrared thermometer uses triple A batteries.

Specifically, it uses two triple-A batteries. Your first set of batteries will come with the thermometer, but you will have to buy your own. Any brand will work, whether they are disposable or rechargeable.

How Do You Change The Batteries In An Ooni Thermometer?

Though the first batteries should last you a while, they will eventually die, and that will mean that you have to change the batteries.

When you are ready to change the batteries, the process will be very similar to when you put in the first set of batteries. You will be able to pop open the front of the thermometer.

There you will find a spot for two batteries like any other device or remote. Insert the batteries, close the front,

Where Should I Place My Infrared Thermometer?

Sometimes when people first get an infrared thermometer for their pizza oven, they do not know where to place it.

They measure the temperature of the air or even the flame and end up with the same problems they had before: pizza that does not cook properly. It would be best if you pointed your infrared thermometer at the center of the pizza stone.

The closer that you can get, the more accurate the reading is. Of course, you want to be careful not to burn yourself, but get as close as you can without doing so.

How Hot Should A Pizza Stone Be?

As you can see, the temperature is extremely important if you are hoping for your pizza to cook correctly.

The temperature you are looking for when scanning the pizza stone with your infrared thermometer is 800 degrees Fahrenheit or about 426 degrees Celcius.

Any less than this, and you risk the top starting to burn before the bottom can become fully cooked. If you let the temperature rise too far above this, you are risking having the opposite problem.

The base could start to burn before the pizza can cook through.

The Last Slice

In conclusion, if you have gotten your Ooni pizza oven, you may have realized that cooking pizza like the professionals takes a little bit more than just throwing a pizza into the oven.

The pizza does not properly cook if you do not get the temperature correct in the oven. Too cold and the top will burn before the bottom cooks; too hot and you will have the opposite problem.

While you can guess and hope for the best, you will have a lot more luck if you get an Ooni infrared pizza thermometer.

Once you get your thermometer, you will be able to check your stone’s temperature to ensure that you get a perfectly cooked pizza every time in just 60 seconds.

You can be the great pizza baker that you are hoping to be. All you need is the right tools.
