There is no difference between the two.
The company was initially named Uuni (which means “oven” in Finnish), but people were unsure how to pronounce it, so they decided to change its name to Ooni.
-
Is the temperature of the Ooni pizza oven adjustable?
If you are burning wood and/or charcoal, you can adjust the temperature by adding more or less wood/charcoal.
It is much easier to control the temperature with the (optional add-on) propane burner because it has a dial you can turn to adjust the flame.
These multi-fuel ovens are not like indoor ovens. There is no dial to change the temperatures.
The temperature is dependent upon the type of fuel you use. We’ve used wood and charcoal. Charcoal keeps an even temperature.
If you want a burst of heat, add small pieces of wood such as oak.
The chimney also helps with adjusting the temperature. If the chimney is fully open, you will raise the temperature.
We also strongly recommend using an infrared thermometer to know the exact temperature of the oven and the stone.
It will probably take some practice before you can bake the perfect pizza. The trick is to keep rotating the pizza 90 degrees every 15 seconds.
Check our article on 9 Tactics for Ooni ovens for more tricks and tips.
-
Is the chimney of an Ooni oven removable?

When using wood or charcoal, let the fire burn down naturally until it is completely extinguished.
When using pellets, let the fire burn down.
To be safe, allow about 1 hour to allow your oven to cool down. After it has cooled down, you may clean it and store it.
-
How much fuel does the Ooni pizza oven needs?
How much fuel you need will depend on how many pizzas you plan to bake. Remember that the average cooking time is around 90 to 120 seconds.
That is very fast! So any fuel source will last a long time. Here is a guideline on how each fuel source will last.
Propane Gas – 350 gallons/hour
Pellets – 2 pounds/hour
Charcoal – 1 pound will last 3 to 4 hrs
Wood – 1 pound will last 2 to 3 hrs -
What is the difference between the Gas and the Wood Ooni pizza oven?
Choosing the gas option over the wood/charcoal option is a personal preference.
Gas will give you more control over the overall temperature of the oven with little to no added taste.
Wood and charcoal, on the other hand, you will have less control over temperature, but they will give you a phenomenal taste.
By adding different kinds of woods, you can transfer the wood’s taste and aroma to the crust, giving it an extraordinary flavor.
So in the end, it translates to what you prefer, taste over control, it’s up to you. Check our article on the best fuel source for your Ooni oven for more information.

-
Do I need a pizza oven, or can I just use a BBQ?
Having a pizza oven is a much better option.
The main reason is temperature; in a standard BBQ and in a standard kitchen oven, you will only be able to reach temperatures of about 500F.
In an Ooni pizza oven and many other pizza ovens, you can reach temperatures of over 900F.
Why is this important? Texture and crust structure. You can only achieve the best crust texture and hole structure in a high-temperature oven.
Pizzas made in lower-temperature ovens tend to be soggy. With a pizza oven specifically made for that purpose, you can make the most incredible pizza every time.
